Many of Nortel’s remaining 1,700 employees in the Triangle work for the enterprise business group. Most of the Enterprise business group operations are based in RTP and Richardson, Texas. The head of the group, Joel Hackney, is based in RTP.
Avaya has said it will retain some 60 percent of the Nortel Enterprise employees.
The Enterprise unit supplies landline phone systems and other communications equipment to businesses and large organizations around the world.
Avaya agreed in September to buy Nortel Enterprise Solutions for $900 million, with an additional $15 million for an employee retention program.
The transaction has now been approved by governments in the U.S., Canada and European Union.
The privately held New Jersey-based company plans to close on the deal this month.
Nortel, based in Toronto, has since been selling its operations piece by piece since filing for creditor protection in January.
