RALEIGH, N.C. – year-long effort to help readers worldwide discover new books through the social media tool reached a major milestone Tuesday when it joined the debut of a revamped Yahoo!.

The Raleigh-based provider of self-publishing services for authors, artists and musicians acquired weRead last August. The application enables readers to catalog their books on a virtual bookshelf, as well as rate and review them.

WeRead is the sole book application offered so far through the Lulu says nearly 3.5 million users already utilize weRead, compiling more than 20 million ratinghs and 2.6 million reviews of books.

The application is geared for social networks, allowing readers to discuss and review what other users are reading.

“With weRead now available on Yahoo!’s home page, more readers than ever are able to experience book discovery in a truly social way," said Harish Abbott, senior vice president of products at Lulu. "Our partnership with Yahoo! is tremendous for readers everywhere and ensures more success for authors."

Lulu has more than 2 million registered users worldwide for its digital and ondemand publishing services.
