RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – At least two other companies made bids for the enterprise business unit of bankrupt Nortel, the Ottawa Citizen

Nortel spokesperson Jay Barta confirmed to the Canadian Press that other bids were made, but he wouldn’t disclose the names of the companies.

"We have received additional bids, but I can’t tell you how many, and I can’t go into any details on them," he said in a telephone interview with Canadian Press.

Reuters also said other bidders would contest Avaya’s $475 million offer that was made last month.

The deadline to enter bids was Friday.

An auction is set for Sept. 11.

A Nortel spokesperson confirmed to both the newspaper and Reuters that additional offers were made. However, the other bidders weren’t identified,

Most of Nortel’s remaining work force in RTP is part of the enterprise group.

Nortel is based in Canada.
