RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Stephen Cutler, a senior executive at , is joining Quintiles rival Kendle as its senior vice president and chief operating officer.

Both Quintiles and Kendle (Nasdaq: KNDL) are international clinical research organizations, providing a variety of services to life science companies. is based in Cincinnati.

At Kendle, Cutler replaces Chris Bergen, who becomes executive vice president and chief administrative officer. Bergen is one of Kendle’s co-founders.

Cutler reports directly to Candace Kendle, chairman and chief executive officer of Kendle.

Cutler spent 14 years at Quintiles. His most recent job was senior vice president for global project management. He also held posts in oncology and in Europe as well as for South Africa and Australia. He worked at Sandoz before joining Quintiles.

Cutler earned a doctorate in philosophy at the University of Sydney in Australia and an MBA in business at the University of Birmingham in England.
