North Carolina’s Senate passed by an overwhelming margin, 40-8, Monday night for an unnamed company to invest $1 billion in a new facility for North Carolina.

The bill now goes to Gov. Bev Perdue, who is expected to sign the measure.

The legislation reportedly targets Apple, which could pick a western North Carolina county as the site for a data center.

Legislation that would change how corporate income taxes are calculated passed the state House earlier. Democratic Rep. Pryor Gibson of Anson County said the company is very close to a decision on where to put its East Coast data center.

The Associated Press reported two weeks ago that the company is Apple Inc.
