is shutting down its research and development facility in RTP where some 50 people worked.
Sierra recently acquired Wavecom, which had operated the RTP facility, for $275 million. The shutdown was part of a series of cost reduction moves Sierra announced Monday.
The research and development operations of Sierra are being consolidated at a Sierra facility in California. Some RTP workers will be offered jobs there, a company spokesperson told The News & Observer in Raleigh.
Anders Franzen, who was the top executive at Wavecom in the U.S., is leaving the company as well.
