The Partnership for Defense Innovation (PDI), the parent of the based in Fayetteville, announced on Friday two strategic hires who will operate out of PDI’s satellite offices in Charlotte and Raleigh.

Gary E. Mitchell has been hired as Senior Business Developer and will be headquartered at PDI’s Charlotte location in the Ben Craig Center. Randy McLean has been hired as Business Developer for the Centennial Campus Office at N.C. State University in Raleigh.

Before joining PDI, Mitchell was the district director and senior staff member for U.S. Congressman Robin Hayes, where his primary role was economic development, specifically in the defense arena. In regards to the latest round of Base Realignment and Closure, Mitchell assisted with the recruitment of defense contractors to the district and ensured that the interests of Ft. Bragg and Pope AFB were given significant priority regarding the legislative process.

McLean joins PDI from Global DataGuard, Inc., an award-winning provider of network security services, where he served as vice president of strategic alliances, responsible for worldwide partnerships with value added resellers in the information technology industry. McLean’s expertise is in the area of business and market development.

As business developers in both the Charlotte and Raleigh areas, Mitchell and McLean will be responsible for the recruitment of client and affiliate companies for the DSTA, which is a business accelerator program that assists entrepreneurs and innovators with developing new business and dual-use technologies in a rapid (8-18 month) timeline, with a focus on both military and commercial needs.

To date, PDI/DSTA has engaged with 11 client companies, four affiliate companies as well as numerous ally companies; resulting in 150 jobs and has infused over $31.8 million into the N.C. economy.
