, a former IBM executive at its RTP campus who is cited on Big Blue’s Web site as one of the global giant’s “Builders,” has died.

Kuehler served as director of the Raleigh Communications Laboratory in RTP from 1967 to 1970, according to IBM.

Kuehler was “revered by the company’s engineering rank and file,” according to an . Kuehler, who was 76, died Dec. 20.

Over a long, distinguished career, Kuehler advanced through IBM’s hierarchy to become the company’s top technologist. He went on to become IBM’s president and vice chairman during the 1980s.

Kuehler lived in California.
