Time Warner Cable is adding more than 20 high-definition (HD) channels to its Carolina Region lineup, with the first ones coming online Oct. 29.

The channels are provided at no additional charge to customers who have the digital tier level of service and HD equipment.

New additions include:

• Planet Green, an “eco-lifestyle” network focused on “green” lifestyle

• The Discovery Channel

• The Speed Channel

Other selections include: ESPNU, CNN, Disney Channel, History, Animal Planet, ABC Family, Lifetime, ESPNews, Learning Channel, FSNS HD, Cinemax E, Cinemax W, Starz!, TMC and PPV.

Future additions will include The Weather Channel HD and Hallmark HD.

Standard definition channels to be added include Sprout and Major League Baseball (MLB).

Time Warner Cable says it has invested more than $50 million in network upgrades to help support HD programming.
