formally broke ground Tuesday for a $57 million expansion of its medical equipment and technologies business unit in Cary.
The project, which was announced in February, will create some 300 jobs. Siemens will receive $5.6 million in tax rebates through a North Carolina Job Development Investment Grant if it meets all new-job creation goals. Some 700 people already work at the Cary complex.
The expansion will include a 143,000-square-foot, six-story building and a parking deck. The building is scheduled to open in 2010.
