Alltel Wireless plans to expand the availability of its high-speed data service across the Triangle.

The “Rev. A” provides download speeds of between 600 kilobits and 1.4 megabits per second with bursts to 3.1 mgps. That’s some 10 times faster than current speeds.

Alltel utilizes EVDO, or evolution data optimized, technology.

In addition to the Triangle, Alltel plans to boost access speeds along U.S. 64 from Wendell to Rocky Mount, along U.S. 264 from Wendell to Greenville and along Interstate 95 between the Wilson and Roanoke Rapids interchanges.

Alltel data plans cost $59.99 and do not require a contract for voice services.
