Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK) is closing a manufacturing plant in the U.K. that employs more than 490 people.

GSK said in an announcement that the shutdown process of the facility in Crawley would begin immediately. Some 160 jobs had already been cut in Crawley, according to local media.

The Crawley facility opened in 1953.

GSK maintains one of its two U.S. headquarters in Research Triangle Park.
