QuarTek Corporation, a startup focused on nanotechnology, is teaming with Clean Water Enterprises to offer a water purification system.

Clean Water Enterprises, which is part of Piazza Investment Holdings and is based in Winston-Salem, plans to sell the system worldwide in early 2009.

According to the two companies, they will develop a product that eliminates threats from solid particles, harmful chemicals, heavy metals, bacteria, and other organisms.

"We are pleased to partner with Clean Water Enterprises and PIH in extending QuarTek’s proprietary ionic disinfecting technology into potable water purification products," said Reyad Sawafta, QuarTek’s founder and chief executive officer.

Added Clean Water Enterprises CEO Tom Costello: "The enhanced products will not only be more effective, but also require less maintenance and minimized power consumption – significant advantages in developing markets."
