Joel Cohen, a writer and a co-executive producer of “The Simpsons” TV show, will be one of the keynote speakers at the upcoming Red Hat Summit.

The annual conference is set for June 18-20 in Boston.

“These days, it isn’t uncommon to see open source solutions powering some of the greatest animations being produced by leading entertainment companies,” Cohen said in a statement. “As open source becomes more pervasive in the industry, the creators behind these shows and movies are being equipped with new ways to innovate and deliver cutting-edge entertainment. These changes to the industry are thrilling and I’m excited to be attending the Summit in Boston to discuss my experiences with animation and the revolution that the animated films industry is experiencing with the help of open source.”

Jim Whitehurst, Red Hat’s (NYSE: RHT) new chief executive officer, and Brian Stevens, Red Hat’s chief technology officer, also will speak.

Other headliners include John Halamka, chief information officer at Harvard Medical School. A Red Hat advocate, Halamka is also chairman of the New England Health Electronic Data Interchange Network.
