Frank Plastina, chief executive officer at telecom gear maker Tekelec, is joining the board of directors at light emitting diode manufacturer Cree.

Plastina also will serve of Cree’s audit committee and governance and nominations committee.

"We are pleased to have Frank join our Board of Directors," said Chuck Swoboda, Cree’s chairman and chief executive officer. "Frank’s experience and insight as CEO of a company accelerating the transition to high-performance, efficient, converged networks will expand the breadth and strength of our Board. This transformational insight should be very helpful to Cree as we pursue our strategy to replace traditional lighting solutions with energy-efficient, environmentally friendly LED lighting."

Plastina joined Tekelec, which is based in Morrisville, in February of 2006. An executive at Nortel from 1987-2002, Plastina was an executive in residence at Warburg Pincus before joining Tekelec.
