Trinity Convergence, a developer of software for use in mobile devices and telephony, has landed a new investor and a new round of venture financing.

Trinity, which employs approximately 100 people across offices in the Triangle, the United Kingdom and India, raised some $8 million in funding, Leading the round is new investor Needham Capital.

Also investing were existing investors Intersouth Partners in Durham as well as Core Capital and Mid-Atlantic Ventures.

Trinity also raised $4 million in debt financing from Square 1 Bank, which is also based in Durham.

The company is expanding to meet increased demand for its software in devices and networks such as those utilizing voice over Internet Protocol technology, according to a company spokesperson. Trinity also offers solutions for video over IP networks and for combination wireless fidelity (WiFi) and cellular handsets.

Launched in 2000, Trinity has raised $16.1 million through earlier rounds.
