Intel and IBM have contributed a combined $3.6 million in equipment to the Virtual Computing Lab project at North Carolina State University.

Intel made a $2.4 million contribution and IBM added $1.2 million, the companies announced Wednesday. The Virtual Computing Lab is designed to help spread the access of sophisticated computing resources to K-12 schools, community colleges and universities across the state.

Other firms also made donations to the project, including NetApp and SAS.
NCSU’s Friday Institute also supports the project.
