Red Hat is teaming up with Fidelity National Information Services to offer a new enterprise-banking solution.

The two firms offer a suite of services based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux that can run on a single server to support four Quad Core Xeon Series 7300 processors from Intel.

Several banks are already implementing the solution, which can handle 25 million accounts and is an alternative to traditional mainframe processing, according to Red Hat.

“This solution offers a real breakthrough for commercial banks,” said Frank Sanchez, president of the Enterprise Solutions Division for Fidelity National Information Services. “While banks’ legacy systems have been workhorses, they are limited in their ability to expand further, and they represent high-cost real estate in a low-cost world.”
