Synteract, a contract research organization based in San Diego, Calif., is opening a new office in the Triangle.

The privately held firm, which was formed in 1995, employs approximately 200 people. It also has an office in Philadelphia.

Synteract already has three people working out of a 3,200-square foot office in the Concourse Building in Morrisville, according to a company spokesperson. That number will grow.

“Synteract plans to hire another two before year’s end,” the spokesperson said. “Next year there are plans to hire another six to eight employees, including safety specialists, clinical research associates, project managers and sales people.”

North Carolina’s CRO industry is growing rapidly, with Quintiles Transnational and INC Research adding hundreds of job and PRA International relocating to Raleigh from Virginia. PPD and AAIPharma have recently announced growth plans or acquisitions.

Synteract provides a variety of clinical trial services for life science companies. The Morrisville office will focus on clinical monitoring and site management, safety surveillance and project management.

Synteract is looking to hire safety associates, clinical research associates, project managers and sales management, according to its Web site.

“At Synteract, responsive customer support is a promised standard that includes education, mentoring and ongoing assistance,” said Synteract’s Stewart Beiler, senior vice president of Clinical Operations and Project Management. “With these expanded operations capabilities, we anticipate even faster growth than we have seen in the past few years.”
