Nick Van Wyk, a former executive at EMC, is taking on the role as “senior transformation executive” at Red Hat.

Van Wyk is also Red Hat’s vice president for global operations,

His new duties include leading a “Transformation Team” that the Linux software developer and services provider (NYSE: ) has tasked with improving the company’s operating efficiency and performance. He is based in Raleigh and reports to Chief Financial Officer Charlie Peters.

“Nick does an excellent job of bringing the customer perspective to his operations role,” Peters said in a statement. “Also, his international experience is a great match for the global scale of Red Hat.”

Van Wyk has spent more than 30 years in global operations in the computer industry. At EMC, he was vice president of sales and channel operations for the firm’s software group.
