Lord Corporation, a provider of technology for use in vibration, noise and motion control, has won a $4.5 million from the U.S. Air Force to a C-130 aircraft project.

Lord has been tasked to design and develop an electro-magnetic system for propeller balancing in C-130E and C-130H aircraft. The four-engine plans provide much of the backbone for Air Force cargo and personnel delivery around the world.

The contract covers the next three years. The RTI solution could be installed on more than 500 aircraft.

According to Lord, controlling propeller vibration is a new application for electro-magnetic balancing. It is already used in industrial applications from turbo-compressors to high-speed machining spindles.
