i2Telecom, a provider of portable Voice over Internet Protocol communications products and services, has received a “notice of allowance” from the U.S. patent and Trademark Office for its VoiceStick technology.

The company expects to receive formal approval for up to 30 claims covering its technology. It filed for the patent in 2004.

The VoiceStick is a device that turns computers into a telephone and also enables cellular phones to be used worldwide. The USB device does require access to a broadband Internet connection.
