Sheela Sharma, a senior researcher at The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences, has received a $450,000 grant for cancer research.
The focus of Sharma’s efforts is to find chemical compounds that can be used to prevent, stop or reverse cancer development. Sharma has already developed culture systems for testing compound efficacy and toxicity.
The project is being funded by the National Institutes of Health and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Researchers at the university will work with Sharma on the project.
Sharma joined the Hamner staff last fall.
