Leslie Alexandre, a former chief executive officer of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, has joined the board of directors at Arbovax.
Arbovax is a startup focused on development of vaccines to fight insect-born viruses.
Alexandre recently was named director of corporate relations for health care and life sciences at the North Carolina State University College of Management.
“We are very excited to welcome Dr Alexandre to our board,” said Malcolm Thomas, chief executive officer at Arbovax. “She not only brings a depth of experience in public health but also a long involvement in fostering biotechnology entrepreneurship in North Carolina that will be invaluable to a company such as ours”.
Alexandre served as the top executive at the Biotech Center from August of 2002 until her January of 2007.
“The company’s focus on developing improved vaccine technology to prevent insect-borne diseases such as Dengue Fever and West Nile is consistent with my public health training and values,” Alexandre said in a statement. “I am impressed with what the company has accomplished so far, and look forward to working with Malcolm and my new board colleagues to help bring this critically needed technology to the global market as soon as possible.”
