Venture capital firm Grotech Capital Group confirmed Tuesday that Don Rainey of Intersouth Partners would join the Maryland firm.

Intersouth said Rainey, who ran its suburban Washington D.C. operation, was leaving but declined to say what Rainey’s specific plans were.

The hiring of Rainey is part of Grotech’s strategy to focus more on information technology investments.

"We are very pleased that Don Rainey has joined us. His deep operating background, connections and extensive venture investment experience make him a perfect fit for Grotech, with its value-added approach to venture investing," said Grotech Managing General Partner Frank Adams in a statement.

"Don’s addition represents an important element of our focused, technology venture strategy," he added.

Rainey, a former Novell and IBM executive, also was involved in two high-tech RTP firms – DaVinci Systems and Accipiter.

Intersouth is based in Durham, N.C.
