Cricket Communications kicked off its coverage in the Research Triangle market on Tuesday.

The wireless service provider is opening four retail stores in the Triangle, with two in Raleigh, one in Durham and the other in Cary. Cricket is also working with 48 dealers. Of those, 19 exclusively offer Cricket service.

Cricket offers unlimited, flat-rate service and does not require contracts or credit checks. Plans range from $35 to $60.

“We are thrilled to jump start service in the Triangle,” said Hank Taylor, district director for Cricket in Raleigh-Durham. “Cricket’s unlimited wireless services will not only positively impact consumers, but will have a simultaneous positive impact on the market’s economy.”

Cricket is part of California-based Leap Wireless. The company also offers access in Charlotte and the Triad.
