Rebecca Nicholson, who joined RTI International in 2002, is the new director of the environment, health and safety research division at RTI.

Nicholson will oversee a staff of 90 scientists and engineers.

"Becky consistently demonstrates all of the leadership traits needed to succeed in her new position," said Terry Pierson, Ph.D., vice president of Environmental Sciences at RTI. "She is clear and decisive, has a strategic outlook and vision and is very involved with her staff and their projects. She will be a great asset to RTI in her new role."

At RTI, Nicholson had served as director of environmental engineering since 2005. She has more than 20 years of experience in environmental research with an emphasis on development and implementation of air quality regulations.

Nicholson received degrees in chemical engineering and pulp and paper technology from North Carolina State University.
