Inspire Pharmaceuticals, which is preparing to launch sales of a new product, has named Stephen Celestini as its chief compliance officer.

Celestini was general counsel and vice president for corporate compliance at Salix Pharmaceuticals from 2001-2006.

“Steve has valuable experience in leading compliance programs, in particular for companies with marketed prescription products,” said Inspire Chief Executive Officer Christy Shaffer. “As we move forward to launch and commercialize AzaSite, Steve’s expertise and legal background will complement our existing outstanding quality and compliance team.”

Inspire recently licensed rights to sell AzaSite, an eye treatment. The company also sells two other drugs under an agreement with Allegran.

Celestini worked five years at GlaxoWellcome and also has worked for two law firms in North Carolina. He earned his law degree from Wake Forest University Law School.
