Jacob Reider, a practicing physician, is the new medical director for research and development at Misys Healthcare Systems.

The hiring is part of a strategic vision being put in place for the information technology services provider to the healthcare industry by Mike Lawrie, the recently named chief executive at the firm.

Reider practices in New York as a family physician.

“Appointing Dr. Reider as Misys’ medical director sends a clear message to our clients, the industry and our employees that we are committed to building not only our expertise, but also solutions that add value for physicians,” said Vern Davenport, executive vice president of Misys Healthcare. “Misys’ research and development team will leverage Dr. Reider’s skills and practice experience to support our goal of becoming a dominant provider of physician-focused Community EHR [electronic health record] solutions.”

Reider has worked with Misys as a consultant over the past year and is part of the Clinical Insight Group that includes clinicians and healthcare industry leaders.

“Within my practice, I have seen how the use of EHR technology can be vital to improving patient care and workflow,” Reider said in a statement. “If physicians across all care settings haven’t adopted this technology yet, they should.”

Reider is also an associate editor for Physician’s First Watch, a daily medical news update from the New England Journal of Medicine.
