BD Biosciences, the pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing firm formerly known as Becton Dickinson, is expanding its manufacturing plant in Durham.

The company will announce the expansion and the possible addition of jobs on Thursday.

BD’s current facility covers 190,000 square feet. The company plans to add 50,000 square feet.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at the plant site in Treyburn. Company Chairman, President and CEO Ed Ludwig is expected to attend.

BD currently employs 285 people in Durham. The facility is used to manufacture laboratory equipment.
