VitalSource Technologies, a developer of software for the electronic publishing of books, reached the 1 billion mark in e-book distribution this week.

The company, which is owned by Ingram Digital Ventures but based in Raleigh, provides e-publishing tools as well as solutions for advanced search, cross reference and note taking and sharing of notes.

“No other e-book format has achieved such widespread adoption,” said Frank Daniels III, VitalSource’s chief executive officer. “This milestone further validates our company’s business model, built not only on the commitment to develop advanced digital publishing technologies, but also on the ability to collaborate with companies with distinct needs to deliver the best solution for their businesses.”

VitalSource, which was founded in 1994, works with a wide variety of publishers, educational institutions and others to provide e-books and strategy for specific markets.
