RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Cisco Systems has signed an agreement to acquire privately held NeoPath Networks.

NeoPath, which is based in Santa Clara, Calif., focuses on file storage management solutions. It is privately held and has 55 employees.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

NeoPath has developed a technology for file storage that is patented.
"Enterprise customers are asking Cisco how they can make better use of their existing IT infrastructure, and NeoPath is part of the answer," said Jayshree Ullal, senior vice president for Cisco’s Datacenter Switching and Security Technology Group. "NeoPath’s technology will enhance Cisco’s Services Oriented Network Architecture direction and vision by establishing tighter linkages between file based data and network accelerated services."

The deal is expected to close before April 28.
