RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Marshall Phelps, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel for intellectual property at Microsoft, will be one of the keynote speakers at the upcoming Venture 2007 conference.

The event, which is scheduled for April 23-25 at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club in Durham, is put on by the Council for Entrepreneurial Development.

Phelps will speak on April 25. He oversees Microsoft’s intellectual property groups as well as the company’s intellectual property portfolio that includes some 3,000 U.S. patents. He spent 28 years at IBM before joining Microsoft in 2003.

“Drawing from his decades of experience at IBM and now Microsoft, Phelps will offer a unique perspective on corporate partnering and intellectual property in today’s rapidly changing innovation-based economy,” said Monica Doss, CED’s president.

More than 50 companies from across the southeast and Mid-Atlantic are expected to make presentations at the conference.
