Alan Holmer, a board member at Inspire Pharmaceuticals, is resigning to accept a position with the Bush administration.

Homer, a board member since June of 2005, is a former president and chief executive officer of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. He will serve as a special envoy for China and strategic economic dialogue and overseas bilateral economic relations with China.

Holmer has two children afflicted with cystic fibrosis. Inspire is developing therapeutic treatments for that drug.

“As a board member, I have loved my work with my board colleagues and the Inspire management team,” Holmer said in a statement. “As a parent of two children with cystic fibrosis, I am doubly grateful for Inspire’s excellent work in this therapeutic area. I wish them only the very best.”
