ATLANTA – Weather Channel Interactive has set up a new ventures group that will seek acquisitions and additional business opportunities.

The group will be led by Steve Hassett, the chief executive officer and co-founder of iTendant, a provider of Web and wireless services for hotels, office buildings and corporate facilities.

The Weather Channel Interactive ventures group plans to target profitable or nearly profitable companies between $1 million and $50 million. The company said it would seek firms that complement assets of its core services, such as, travel, vacations, recreation and what it called “green living.”

In addition to, other Weather Channel Interactive properties include a vacation home rental site and a climate change discussion site.
