RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Tokyo Electron Limited, the second largest equipment supplier to chip manufacturers, is the latest firm to join the Semiconductor Research Corporation.

The SRC now includes 24 private companies and partners as well as more than 100 universities from around the world. Its mission is to help fund and direct research into semiconductors and related technology. The SRC’s headquarters are in RTP.

Tokyo Electron Limited will work with the SRC and other members in research for materials and processes related to chip manufacturing.

“The challenges are getting more difficult for the entire semiconductor industry. There’s an urgent need for collaboration among all segments of the value chain,” said Tetsuro Higashi, chief executive of Tokyo Electron Limited. “SRC is the world’s leading forum where the equipment makers can partner with the entire spectrum of chipmakers and suppliers in a pre-competitive setting. We expect that our participation there will provide substantial achievements for both TEL and the industry.”
