RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – StrikeIron, a provider of various Web services, is teaming up with O’Reilly Media to offer a “mashup” contest.

A mashup is an application for voice, Web or mobile applications that combines content from one or more sources to create what StrikeIron and O’Reilly call a “new user experience.”

The contest will take place at the O’Reilly Emerging Telephony Conference. Other sponsors include Tellme, Networks Inc. and Sylantro.

“We’re excited to empower developers to create new applications for the telephony market,” said Bob Brauer, StrikeIron’s chief executive officer. “By tapping into the vast marketplace of content and services leveraging our online data distribution platform, developers can help empower a new set of services for users. We look forward to seeing some really extraordinary applications.”
