DURHAM, N.C. – Intersouth Partners of Durham is the lead investor in a $7.2 million round of venture capital for a Virginia-based software firm.

Clarabridge, which is located in Reston, focuses on text mining technology.

Intersouth had invested previously in the firm’s first round, which totaled $3 million. Boulder Ventures led that round.

Clarabridge said it would use the funds tp increase sales and marketing efforts, expand customer service and support, and add additionally functionality to its software.

“We believe the ability to mine all external and internal unstructured text is going to fundamentally change the way businesses operate,” said Don Rainey, a partner with Intersouth Partners, in a statement. “Our investment reflects Intersouth’s belief that Clarabridge is aggressively tackling this real business need and is the market leader in ‘operationalizing’ this capability.”
