Misys Healthcare has awarded the city of New Haven, Conn., a software grant worth $3 million as part of its electronic medical records initiative.

The grant was presented through the Center for Community Health leadership initiative, which Misys Healthcare sponsors.

New Haven was selected through efforts led by the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven. Software will be made to physicians and health care professionals in the greater New Haven area.

“The goal of this grant program is to provide local health care organizations with the resources and expertise they need to make community-wide data sharing a reality,” Leigh Burchell, director of the Center for Community Health Leadership, said in a statement. “With this grant, we will provide health care professionals in southern Connecticut with education, technology and resources so that they can successfully achieve their goals of enhancing the patient experience, reducing the potential for medical errors and improving business efficiencies.”

Misys Healthcare launched the initiative in 2006
