WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Telecommunications provider Embarq has reached the 1 million mark in high-speed Internet customers through its digital subscriber line (DSL) offering.
Embarq services much of the Carolinas as part of its national local service coverage area.
The company launched DSL service in 1999 when it was known as Sprint. Almost 77 percent of Embarq’s network can support DSL.
Through the first three quarters of this year, Embarq’s DSL customer account increased 46 percent over the same time period in 2005. DSL service is offered in increments of 1.5, 3.0 or 5.0 megabits per second. DSL users also receive 25 gigabytes of storage space at no charge.
