RALEIGH, N.C. — Larry’s Beans, Warren Wilson College, and The Center for Sustainable Enterprise at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School were honored at the Sustainable North Carolina awards on Monday.
Sustainable North Carolina is a nonprofit dedicated to helping organizations realize the benefits of sustainable business and development practices – strong economic performance, social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
Larry’s Beans won in the Triple Bottom Line category. The Raleigh-based firm is a coffee roaster that utilizes organically grown coffee, utilizes a bus that runs on used vegetable oil, and operates a newly renovated “green” distribution center.
Warren Wilson College received the Environmental Stewardship award. Students are required to carry a full course load, work 15 hours per week to support all college operations, and complete 100 hours of service learning.
The Center for Sustainable Enterprise was selected in the Innovative Initiatives category. The CSE provides consulting services to help North Carolina businesses implement sustainable practices.
