Nortel has won a contract to provide a metro broadband solution to Shanghai Telecom.

Shanghai, the largest city in China, has a population of more than 20 million.

The telecommunications company will utilize Nortel’s Metro Ethernet Networking solution for deliver of voice, video and data solutions. The network also may be used for Internet Protocol TV.

Nortel will provide an Ethernet routing switch at the core of the network and other devices at the network’s edges. Metro Ethernet technology enables providers to deliver high-speed services where optic fiber is not available. Nortel’s products can also support wireless needs.
