RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Twelve venture capitalists have formed the selection committee for the first Southeast Venture Conference, which is being put on by TechJournal South.

The conference is set for Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 2007 at the Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary.

The conference will include presentations from as many as 25 companies. Applications are due by Oct. 15.

Committee members include: John Abraham, Kodiak Ventures; Jack Biddle, Novak Biddle; Jan Bouten, Aurora Funds; Jason Caplain, Southern Capitol Ventures; Steve Fredrick, Grotech Capital; Andy Jones, Boulder Ventures; Brian Leiber, Battery Ventures; Merrette Moore, NC IDEA; Ryan Moore, Grandbanks Capital; Matthew Shaw, Crossbow Ventures; David Sung, HIG Ventures; and Tom Weithman, Center for Innovative Technology GAP Fund.

Companies seeking to present must have their headquarters in one of the following states/regions: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia/Washington D.C.
