DURHAM, N.C. — Cree has filed a patent lawsuit against BridgeLux, a California-based manufacturer of light-emitting diode products.

Cree, which also makes LEDs, alleges in the suit that BridgeLux has infringed on two patents. Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) is seeking monetary damages and injunctive relief.

The suit was filed in U.S. Federal Court in North Carolina.

The patents, which Cree had licensed exclusively from Boston University, cover “enhanced light extraction in LEDS through the use of internal and external optical elements and the use of gallium nitride technology in LEDs.

Cree sued two other firms for infringing the gallium nitride patent and won both, the company said in a statement.
