DALLAS, TX. — The number of households with a home entertainment network will increase more than seven fold over the next five years, according to a new report from Parks Associates.

The Dallas-based research firm forecasts that the number of home networks will hit 29.9 million in 2010. That’s up from 4 million in 2006.

The “Networks in the Home: Connected Consumer Electronics” says home networks will more than double in 2007 to 8.7 million then hit 15.3 million, 2008 and 22.2 million in 2009.

Parks Associates defines a connected entertainment network as a network composed of either a PC connected to at least one consumer electronic device or multiple interconnected consumer electronic devices such as a whole-house DVR system.

“Broadband proliferation is a fundamental driver of connected entertainment opportunities inside the home,” said Harry Wang, research analyst at Parks Associates. “But more importantly, better network configuration tools and easy-to-navigate user interfaces will assuage consumers’ concerns about setup difficulties or application glitches.”
