BEAUFORT, N.C. — As tall ships from around the world gather in Beaufort through July 4 for the Americas’ Sail event, Embarq is beefing up the availability of high-speed Internet access.
Embarq — the new name for Sprint’s local phone company — set up several digital subscriber line “villages” for DSL access in Beaufort, Old Beaufort and the North Carolina state port. It also made available 16 laptop computers, additional digital lines and prepaid calling cards.
“The grand sailing vessels taking part in this event are steeped in tradition, and we at EMBARQ benefit from a vast amount of experience and history,” said Steve Parrott, the company’s state executive for the Carolinas. “Our customers benefit from that fact and our ability to combine innovation with what we have learned and a state-of-the-art infrastructure to provide the best in communications.”
