RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Three members of the North Carolina Bioscience Organization (NCBIO) will have roles with the national Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) over the next year.

Peter Young, chief executive officer of AlphaVax, has been elected to another term on the BIO’s board of directors. He is chairman of NCBIO.

NCBIO members Donald deBethizy, CEO of Targacept, and Christy Shaffer, CEO of Inspire Pharmaceuticals, will serve on BIO’s emerging companies section governing body. DeBethizy is a member of NCBIO’s executive committee.

“We’re extremely proud to have CEOs from three of North Carolina’s most successful bioscience companies serving on the BIO board and committees,” said NCBIO President Sam Taylor. “The election of these individuals reflects the depth and strength of North Carolina’s growing bioscience community.”
