DAVIDSON, N.C. — UpSNAP, a provider of mobile search and audio entertainment, is teaming up with Ingenio to offer more listings to its service.

Ingenio, which is based in San Francisco, offers advertising linked to directory listings. Advertisers are listed along with numbers and pay providers when consumers place a call to the businesses.

“We see pay per call advertising poised for significant growth, especially in the context of mobile and local search-based advertising,” said Tony Philipp, chief executive officer of UpSNAP. “By partnering with Ingenio, we can optimize our mobile search technology to deliver consumers fast, free access to more of the kind of local information they’re looking for — be it a hotel, florist or pizza joint — in a format that is accessible by virtually all mobile devices.”

Other Ingenio partners include AOL Search, AOL Mobile and InfoSpace.

UpSNAP users text message the business name or category they are seeking along with a local qualifier such as a Zip code to shortcode 27627 (2snap). UpSNAP will return search results along with the Ingenio Pay Per Call ads. To connect with an advertiser, consumers click on the indicated phone number.

The UpSNAP service is free, but text messaging charges by carriers still apply.

“By partnering with UpSNAP, Ingenio is demonstrating further reach into mobile search and the growing market for free directory assistance services,” said Marc Barach, chief marketing officer, of Ingenio. “We are building a comprehensive distribution network that goes beyond traditional web channels to deliver our advertisers quality leads from a wide variety of sources.”
