Telecom gear manufacturer Nortel unveiled plans Monday placing a new emphasis on services and additional product offerings.

“We have identified services as one of the key strategic areas to drive our business momentum and growth,” said Mike Zafirovski, Nortel’s president and chief executive officer. “Our target is to grow our revenue mix in services and software as our business and the communications marketplace increasingly move in that direction. We are expanding what is already a robust collection of services offerings.”

Nortel will focus on services in integration, security, managed services, optimization and maintenance.

New product offerings include: Internet Protocol TV integration services; Voice over Internet Protocol integration services; security consulting; hosted services for call centers, voice and multimedia based on Nortel-owned equipment; a subscriber quality of experience service offering; as well as multi-vendor repair and managed spares services.

Nortel also said it was opening an advanced mobility services center for wireless networks in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
