IBM and Red Hat are among a group of companies pledging support for an emerging open web technology known as Ajax.
Ajax enables Internet users to send or receive information without having to refresh a web browser. Supporters say Ajax makes for easier shopping, corresponding and navigating online.
The new initiative supported by Red Hat and IBM is called Open Ajax. Also offering support are: BEA, Borland, the Dojo Foundation, Eclipse Foundation, Google, Laszlo Systems, Mozilla Corporation, Novell, Openwave Systems, Oracle, Yahoo, Zend and Zimbra.
The goal is for Ajax to work with any computer device, application, desktop or operating system.
Ajax stands for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML.
